Classical Ballet |
Classical ballet (or "ballet") is a refined form of dance, involving
a number of different set positions and movements. These positions
and movements provide a foundation which develops further into more
difficult moves. This style of dance is performed to classical music
and encourages good posture, poise, grace and self discipline. Ballet
is offered to children from four years of age. |
 |
Jazz |
Jazz is an energetic form of dance, with many moves being similar
in their foundation to classical ballet however this style of dance
is performed to popular music (as in music videos). Jazz classes not
following a set syllabus will vary according to the teacher's personal
style. Jazz classes are offered from the age of six to advanced. A
ladies' jazz class is dependent on a strong, ongoing interest. |
 |
Tap |
Tap dancing involves precise footwork using metal plates (known
as taps) attached to the ball and heel of the shoe. This footwork
creates a variety of rhythms and movements which are complemented
by various arm movements. Tap is offered from the age of six and classes
are available for ladies, provided there is a strong, ongoing interest. |
 |
Contemporary |
Contemporary is a modern form of dance incorporating various different
recognised techniques as well as personal variations and styles. It
uses many fundamentals of classical ballet however the moves are very
abstract. This style of dance pushes the boundaries and breaks the
rules. Available to Ballet/Jazz students from Intermediate Foundation and
above. |
